We all try to do our very best for our children and especially when our subject happens to be baby skin care.

As parents we have an ingrained desire to gain as much knowledge as we can and apply it for the benefit of our children. We take it very seriously when it comes to making decisions that could affect their current and future health.

However one of the major problems that we have to face is the modern day phenomenon I call ‘flavor of the month’. What I mean by this is one month we are advised to do things a certain way or use a particular product in a certain way and then next month it all changes.

There is so much research done today on everything. Every kind of statistic is available both for and against every conceivable process, chemical, or point of view. Even many of the so called ‘natural’ products have at times been described as harmful. So what is the most sensible approach?

No sooner are we settled on a course of action, or have begun using particular products or doing things in a certain way when ‘new’ research tells us we have in fact been doing it all wrong. Our method or product is no longer beneficial it is now considered to be harmful.

How on earth are we supposed to make our way through the maze of ideas and end up in a place where we can adopt standards? Where on earth can we to turn to and what should be our approach in trying to make sense of it all?

What should be the best approach when it comes to baby skin care despite all we read and hear in the media? Well believe it or not there is a way and there is a best approach and it isn’t too difficult to follow!

When it comes to baby skin care follow this simple method and you won’t go far wrong! Read more…

As a new mother, the last thing you want to worry about are the dangers posed by the ingredients in the products you use in the care of your newborn. A lot of young mothers believe that the baby products we see on store shelves must be safe, otherwise they wouldn’t be there right? In an ideal world this would be true, but we do not live in an ideal world. It is our responsibility as mothers to ensure that the baby care products we are using are safe for our little ones.

The skin of a newborn baby is extremely delicate, as you are probably aware. In the first few month of life, your baby’s immune system is still developing and adapting to life outside the womb. Exposure to chemicals and other potential allergens in the first few months of life can cause a lifetime of allergy-related health complications. Harsh chemicals and fragrances commonly found in baby skin care products can cause skin irritation, dryness, and rashes. The old adage “Less is More” most certainly applies when it comes to skin care for your little one. The following are three of my favorite organic baby skin care products:

Erbaviva Baby Shampoo is absolutely wonderful! It is extremely gentle on your newborn’s skin, cleansing and protecting without the use of harsh chemicals and detergents. It contains absolutely no harsh, irritating chemicals. It’s main ingredients include olivoil glutinate (a derivative of olive oil), wheat proteins and quilaja tree bark extract, and it is scented ever-so-slightly with organic lavender and chamomile. There are many concerns that you as a new mother will have for your child, many things that will worry you if you let them. One of the issues that can cause major worry is your baby skin care.

Let me encourage you right at the start having a baby should be a wonderful experience if you can just get the right advice, consider all your options and put a plan into place to avoid any problems that may arise.

As far as baby skin care goes I don’t think most new mothers don’t know just what to do for the best.
One of the key issues with regard to baby skin care that you should decide from the outset is; shall I choose natural products or what I would call chemically produced products? Now it may not sound like an important question but I believe it is.

When we had our first son we took a lot of trouble finding out what natural products were available and settled for the all natural approach. We were concerned enough to want to avoid many of the petroleum oil based products that were on the market at that time.

Television advertising is so powerful in persuading us to buy certain products. At first we found it so difficult to break away from the advertising influence and search for the very best baby skin care possible we did do it and are very grateful now as we look back.

By starting off with natural in the first instance you automatically avoid having to determine at some time in future whether or not your baby has sensitive skin. It can take months before some mothers find this out and then have to back track and search out less irritating products. Read more…
